Re-Create a Plone Site

How to re-create a Plone site from scratch

Mail, Users, Markup etc.

Click on Site Setup it will probably complain about:

Warning: You have not configured a mail host or a site 'From' address ...

Mail

Click on Mail and change

  1. SMTP server to localhost
  2. Site 'From' Address to webmaster@example.com

(ensure webmaster@example.com is a valid email address)

Click Save.

Users

Click on Users and Groups then Add New User and add webmaster! Remember to follow the email link and set a password!

You may want to give webmaster manager privileges: go to Users and Groups and click on Show all, tick the manager checkbox and click Apply changes.

You should be apple to perform other updates as webmaster from now on.

Markup

Click on Markup and select text/x-rst as the default format and enable text/x-rst in the buttons. Click Save.

(Not sure if text/x-rst is the same as text/restructured!)

Site

Click on Site and make any changes to Title and Description you missed when creating the site.

Enable inline editing.

Disable locking for through-the-web edits -- if you don't then if you navigate away from a page during an edit then try to view that page you'll get an error.

To fix that problem, find the URL of the page and append /edit (possibly replace /view) then click Cancel

Click Save.

Themes

Click Themes and change Show content type icons to Never. Click Save.
